Giveaway: The Complete Photo Guide to Clothing Instruction
I’m happy to be taking part in the blog tour for my friend Christine Haynes‘ brand new book, The Complete Photo Guide To Clothing Construction. Today, we’re offering one lucky reader a free copy of the book (see details below).
First, I wanted to share a few pages of this fantastic book with you, to give you a sense of what’s inside.
Personally, I am a big believer in photo-heavy instructional books. I’m a visual learner, and I tend to think that clear color photographs are one of the absolute best ways to demonstrate any sort of needlecraft technique.
And the sheer number of photos in this book means that Christine has fit a huge abundance of information into this slender and beautiful book. There are over 600 full color photos, demonstrating everything from how to install zippers to sewing with knits.
This book is like a an extended class in garment sewing, only in book form. With a wonderful teacher like Christine at your side, you can basically learn anything.
Here’s a preview of the kind of clear, quality instruction you’ll see in this book:
I highly encourage you to pick up a copy, and I say that not only as Christine’s friend and admirer, but as a collector of fabulous sewing books. This is the sort of book you will find yourself turning to again and again.
Giveaway
To enter to win a free copy of this book, leave a comment below telling me one sewing technique you’d like to learn or get better at.

Lately I have been playing around with trying to figure out a scalloped edge. You have a great tutorial for it but I have yet to master the technique and achieve an edge that I am happy with!! I shall soldier on in the hopes of achieving my goal!

I was going to say zippers, but that’s already been mentioned (and mentioned, and mentioned!) so I’ll say sewing with slippery fabrics.

I would love to work on finishing techniques and to really take the time to fitting garments well. I haven’t sewn clothing much since I was much younger and back then I think most everything looked pretty “hand-made”. I would like my new garments to look more neat and cleanly finished. Does that make sense? Thanks for the opportunity to win- this book looks great! I’m a visual learner too!

As a newbie I would love to learn anything and more about sewing, but most of all how to properly insert a zipper.
My mom gifted me the Colette Sewing book, which I love.
This book would be a great addition!

Hello Colette,
I love this site. Inspiring eye candy and info. I would love love to learn more about how to do piping well and I just, well, suck at buttons, button holes….the precision of it all.
The book looks awesome!

Though I do sew and draft and am pretty confident in my own skills, it’s the basic jeans with a zip fly that makes me sweat every.single.time.
I would LOVE to master a zip fly “in a wink”. Or at least without having to consult 300 books and about 4 hrs of youtube videos every.single.time.
Yes. That would be a good thing! :)
