Detail Inspiration: Lace Inserts

Lace inserts are a wonderful way to create interest in a garment. We have a great tutorial on adding a lace yoke to the Sencha pattern. It would also look so good on the Peony dress. Or consider the way Sarai made a lovely blouse with lace inserts.

Beautiful lace can be difficult to come by. If you can’t find it at online or local fabric stores, look for it on etsy, estate sales and ebay.

While these fashion shots are highly detailed, consider how you might be able to add some pretty lace to your garments. Maybe add an inset along the sleeve cuff, close to the hem like this Licorice dress. How would you incorporate this lovely detail?

You mean sencha pattern, i think, not beignet. which is really beautiful with that insert. definitely going to try it!

Thanks, Colleen! I just fixed it :)

I am adding some lace to a Hazel dress I have in the works and was so scoping out your different lace tutorials yesterday! Very convenient timing for me on the post!

Quite timely for me as well! I was thinking about looking for lace this weekend to add to the Sorbetto à la the Sencha tutorial.

Hi Caitlin,

I’m dying to know more about that beige jacket … and its source link goes to the nightgown’s. When you have a moment, would you mind updating it?

Love, love, love these posts!

Thank you!

Just updated it, thanks for letting me know!

The lace and the embroidery on the pink night gown are amazing! Great inspiration!

Thanks for the lace–I’ve been look for some inspiration on lace. I haven’t posted my mood board yet (since I don’t have it done!). I found you late in the game, so I decided to sew the 2 tops and a white summer pantsuit (that’s what I’d like to use lace on) I had already cut out before I tackle mood board project. My personal challenge is : I will not buy any more fabric or patterns for the year 2012. Notions, maybe.

I saw a bathing suit ad from the fifties recently with a white chunky lace over green with a green belt… I was thinking how very fitting for summer weddings it would be, attending religious services, or even for bridesmaids! Not exactly an inset, but much more practical for my wardrobe.

Haha! I realized it sounded like I was advocating bathing suits as wedding/church attire! I meant in a dress, of course!

I just love this look! I just recently finished a dress using a Lisette pattern, and I used a simple black lace in the yoke. I came to your site for the tutorial on bias tapes and edging a lace inset. Your directions on the tutorial was easy and the results turned out perfect!
