Detail Inspiration: Pieced Chevrons

I’m a huge fan of stripes. I wear something striped multiple times a week.

One of the things I love about the new pattern we’re releasing soon (March 19!) is that it looks great in stripes. Not because it’s fancy or complicated, but because it’s so simple that the stripes are allowed to speak on their own.

That’s how I usually wear stripes. Give me a simple breton stripe sweater and a pair of black pants and I’m set. No muss, no fuss.

But I love the clever ways these garments use them too. The chevron effect is just so flattering, particularly around the waist (you can play with this concept using the Hazel pattern, by the way).

Any other stripe addicts?

I adore stripes and also wear them at least once a week. Love anything from pinstripe to the more nautical looking wider stripes. My favourite combinations are navy/white or red/white, simple and classic.

Also I love those examples you posted!

I LOVE stripes! Love them – my last dress is striped and I’m about to purchase two more striped fabrics for summer :) Can’t wait for March 19!! So curious! I hope it’s for women :)

Strips can be so amazing. I know this non-waisted gal can certainly work them *LOL*

Oops, hit the “post” button a little early – sorry!

Stripes are so kind when it comes to hiding my (hopefully) temporary “love handles”…

All of these are such cute examples, I’m pinning them right away as inspiration!

I love this look too – pretty sure I’ve got that top right photo in my Flickr favourites. But the top left is almost exactly what I want to make from some fine black self-stripe cotton I’ve got. Anyone know of a pattern like it? I was all set to draft my own but then I read that you need to know what you’re doing to design things on the bias…

I’ve been using the Vintage vogue pattern 8789 (I’m going from the original vintage one). It comes together really well and is v. simple. I think the picture above has narrower shoulders, but that should be a straightforward adjustment.

The suspense is driving me nuts!!! It is supposed to be nearly 70 degrees and sunny here on Saturday in South Carolina and a lovely striped eyelet dress would be perfect!

Sarai, I feel the same way about stripes! I think a nice striped shirt paired with slim pants and a red lip is such a classic combination!

Yes! Agreed!! Stripes are so classic, you can wear them season after season and they never get old. They are season-less!!

I’m working on my first Hazel right now and have about 5 striped shirt fabric pieces in my stash that are about to be used up for the dress. ;) Most clever use of stripes ever!!!

Can’t wait for the new pattern!!

Love, love, LOVE stripes, with chevrons being my favorite variation on them! I would be fine with wearing only stripes and polka dots (usually not at the same time) for the rest of my life. Simple yet fun! Love the examples you’ve posted, especially that gray one on the top left– really WANT that! Hope all’s well in Portland!

Oh, these dresses look GREAT. The gathered waist is lovely as well. I like dresses but wear separates more. Hmmmm. I wonder how it would look if you were to split it into a cropped top and skirt – wear together so it looks like a dress and then separately with other garments.

Looking forward to the new release and I was wondering about the Sorbetto Top selected for the article on the 2013 Sew News. I truly appreciated the abundant information and instructions regarding vintage embellishments. Looking forward, with great anticipation, to creating with this technique. Couldn’t find the pattern listed on your site?! HELP!
