Detail Inspiration: Trousers

As a continuation from last week’s post in celebration of the new patterns release, I’ve got an inspiration post with some fantastic ideas that would mesh well with the Juniper pattern!

Color! I think many, self included, tend towards neutral hued trousers since they lend themselves the best to a wide array of outfits. But bright (and even patterned) pants have been all over the runways of late, and I love the idea of punching up a classic trousers silhouette with a really eye-popping color. Even a softer version of a color–but an unusual one for trousers–would be a fun way to add some extra color into your separates wardrobe.

Shaped pockets are not for everyone (I know not every woman wants to emphasize their hips). But the Juniper’s angled front pockets lend themselves very well to some fun variations! This example from the 1940s is a fun one, highlighted by contrasting buttons at the flap peak. Another idea that would be fantastic with the Juniper is the waistline tab–an easy addition (and great way to use up small scrap pieces)!

Finally another interesting pocket idea–adding a sliver of color along the top edge of a pocket! Wouldn’t that be an interesting way to use a small piece of a really sumptuous fabric with a contrasting pattern or finish? I’m not exactly in love with the echo of the red down the center front of the trousers, but on the outer leg (as a vertical stripe), it would be fetching (and visually elongate the leg).

I like the idea of color but I wouldn’t add to the fly zipper. That’s just me, but bits of color in unique places are great details!

Great links – as usual! – thanks Casey. Love the sliver of pocket colour – but the fly zipper is just plain wierd….. you are so tactful:)

I LOVE the color! I just finished Clover in Cobalt blue and wear them every day.
I can’t find a fly zipper anywhere in your post, but maybe I’m blind.
I, too, love the peek of contrast on those black pockets, but the inner leg pink looks a bit too, um, intimate? to me.

I really like the shaped pockets. That’s a good idea for the Juniper whenever I get around to making them. I need to inform my relatives that I would like gift certificates to Colette Patterns for my birthday and Christmas so I can stock up on patterns I’ve been eyeballing.

Love the shaped pockets – and the really interesting belt loops. Wonder if they would look good in a contrasting color?

Oh dear. I feel a strong urge to buy the last model a box of super tampons. But… the other details are lovely.
