Loops in saffron linen

I am so in love with this linen dress from Dear Golden Vintage. Since it’s not my size, I did what I always do to make myself feel better when a lovely vintage piece is too small or large or expensive or holey: I think about how I’d satisfy my lust for it with sewing. Do you do this too? I think it’s just a way to console myself, but it seems to work.

I’ve been wanting to try some cording techniques like this for a while now, I just love the way it looks. I think the Sencha pattern is going to be my base for a few such yoked looks come summer. But the peplum (and bow, and perfect color) really make this dress special.

If you can’t have the dress, at least take the inspiration, right?

I agree, that is an incredible dress! Please post any photos from a dress it may inspire.

What a beautiful dress! I like that the rest of the dress is quite simple, so it doesn’t look too over-the-top even with the peplum and the cording (it looks like crochet, doesn’t it?). The color is magnificent, and it’s everywhere now.

I’m going to tuck this idea away. What a wonderful detail! I agree on the color= sublime.

Funnily enough: I was looking through one of my vintage sewing books over the weekend and noticed some details that are strikingly similar to this! I think the book said it was made from “spaghetti tubing” (I knew getting that narrow loop turner would come in handy… haha!), and just arranged and tacked to the garment as desired. It’s a pretty fantastic variation on insertion/faggotting–and a bit more pronounced and has a lot more graphic impact. Love it!

Funny for me too. I love peplums and just yesterday decided I HAVE to learn to crochet. I do quite a bit of knitting, but have never crocheted. This is just more inspiration to do so. Love it.
