Five super quick way to help spread the word!

When I announced The Colette Sewing Handbook, I mentioned that I really, really rely on word of mouth when it comes to introducing people to my patterns. That means that you guys, my blog readers, have an especially important role for CP. You guys are the ones who tell people about the patterns, tutorials, and everything else that we do here. You’re also the ones who send me kind emails and leave sweet comments that keep me going!

If you’ve ever talked to an author about this stuff, you know that these days an author has to take a lot of responsibility for promoting her books. And she often has to do it with almost no budget. It’s a new world for me and, I must admit, a bit intimidating.

But my plan is to give it my all, but to do it in a way that’s fun for everyone. I would love it if you could help me out.

Even though it’s really pretty early right now, I thought up a few really fast and simple ways you can help. Some of these really just take a few seconds:

  • Click the “like” button on Amazon. This is super easy. Simply click this link to see The Colette Sewing Handbook on Amazon, and click the little Facebook “like” button (right under the title and author). Takes just a sec, and might help me spread the word on Facebook.
  • Stumble it! Do you use StumbleUpon? If so, please take the time to give my announcement page and the Amazon page a thumbs up in your StumbUpon toolbar! This could help other people find the book, if they’re interested in sewing and use StumbleUpon.
  • Add tags on the Amazon page. Amazon asks users to tag books with relevant terms, in order to make the book easier for others to find. It’s super easy. Just go to the Amazon page and scroll to where it says “Tags Customers Associate with This Product.” Then just click the checkboxes for words you think are relevant to the book (like “sewing”), or add your own terms.
  • Blog or tweet about it. If you’re excited about the book, let people know on your blog or on twitter! This is probably the number one thing you can do to help.

  • Add a button to your blog or site! Related to the one above… I’ve created a couple little buttons that you can feel free to add to your blog it you want! All you have to do is copy and paste the code below. You have your choice of 125×125 square, or 150×187 rectangle. ETA: We had some problems with the image code earlier, but we’ve fixed it, so please try again if you had problems!

As always, thank you for any and all help in getting the word out! I’ll post a few more ways you can help once the book is a lot closer to the publication date.

Even though I am a novice, or a trying to be beginner, garment sewer I have pre-ordered your book because I know it’s going to be a must have. Your work is phenominal and I enjoy your site. I will Like it on Amazon to help spread the word.

You can count me in! I’m sure the book is fantastic and can’t wait to put my eyes on it!

I am super excited! I wish I had a blog – so I could post about the book! Facebook will have to do! But you can bet that I will telling everyone I know to check it out!

Hope I can push your book in Belgium too! I am loving, liking and sharing you in every way I can! And I put a button on my blog :o)
Love your style, I am currently working on your crepe dress!

I’m really excited about this book. Your patterns are my absolute favorite! I’ve liked and pre-ordered. Next step — posting on my blog and grabbing that great button.

I am getting this book- I can’t wait. Also spreading the word on the sewing forum I hang out on. Wishing you every success.

Just pre-ordered it on bookdepository! Am just learning to sew garmets but have made two of your sorbets and am in love. Just had a new lot of your patterns arrive in the mail yesterday. Very excited for the book!

Great looking book. Will add button to my blog.

Hi Sarai! I went ahead and contributed to the two Amazon options above, but unfortunately I don’t have much of an online presence (yet!) and aren’t able to help out with the others.

I did want to ask you – are you going to promote your book in local stores? There are a few local stores that I’ve become close with in the San Antonio / Houston areas, and thought it might be worth a try telling them about the book to see if they might be interested in carrying stock…? A couple of them are quilting stores, but regardless I thought it was worth a try.

Let me know! Thanks Sarai, take care. :)

Thanks Amanda! Definitely feel free to tell them about the book. I think many quilting stores might be interested, even if they don’t carry garment patterns.

Good Morning, I just wanted to let you know that I did post about your book on my blog August 11, the same day I placed my pre-order. While I have been sewing for a very long time, I find your on-line tutorials outstanding. Many sewing techniques need review for me because I have fallen away from garment sewing (for quilting passion, I must admit!) and your style makes that interesting and valuable to me. I am looking forward to adding your book to my library. I will review it for my blog when I receive it, as I do many books that I use. I do this because I think that it is essential to constantly update and develop new skills. Keep up the great work. You have provided a face to the new sewist. To be a driving force in this growing movement, is a wonderful accomplishment. Your enthusiasm, skill and respect for the process will serve you well.

I plan to pre-order the book in the next few weeks. I have “Like” in amazon, “Like” on facebook, and posted a link on my status yesterday. I have been sewing for about 7 months and I find our tutorials brilliant. They are easy to follow and I can’t wait for the book.

Have posted info about your book on my blog. (Maybe one of the few people who read it will be kind enough to see it as a hint to get it for me as a gift).

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your help and support! It means so much to me to be a part of this amazing community.

Just pre-ordered it from Amazon for my twin sister and myself. Can’t wait for it.

Thanks for noting the problem with the button. I thought it was just my own ineptitude that the image didn’t work. I’ve posted it on my blog.

Just added your button to my blog! Love the cover of the book. Makes me happy just looking at it! Posted my Sorbetto top and adore it. Thank you!

Just added your button to my blog. I love your website, and I hope by adding the button it helps get more sales. I just started my blog and only have one follower (my sister) so we’ll see….. But I love your work regardless! I’ll buy the book and review it on my blog!

DONE! I wish you the best, I can’t wait to have this treasure on my book shelf.
