How to add Colette Patterns to your Amazon wishlist

I will admit that this is a totally self-serving post. But it’s also really useful!

Until fairly recently, I had no idea that I could add things from other websites to my Amazon wishlist.

This is super handy if, like me, your family mainly checks out Amazon for gift ideas. Or if you want to have a single wishlist to point people to, rather than a bunch of different stores. It means I can add all sorts of stuff from small companies and artists to a single wishlist, which is pretty cool.

So here’s how you can add our patterns to your wishlist (ahem, just as an example):

  1. Go to Amazon and install the Universal Wishlist button. There are buttons for just about any browser.
  2. Visit the shop at colettepatterns.com and find the pattern you’d like to add.
  3. Click the new handy amazon button in your toolbar.
  4. Use the arrows to choose a photo to go with your wishlist item (it sometimes defaults to odd ones, like the size chart), then click Add to Wish List.

It’ll now show up on your amazon wishlist and anyone visiting it can follow a link to our shop!

Next week, we’ll be unveiling a new gift pack for the holidays, so stay tuned for that!

I use this function…it’s really easy to do and a great way of adding stuff that you really want to you Amazon list as you’re not restricted to their suppliers. A great way of adding patterns and fabric to your list.

I agree–I’ve used this the last couple of years for my Christmas list, and it’s very handy!

self serving is good – particularly when you are a small company. I like to use wishlist for myself because 1. it is a great place to put “nice to have” items so I can budget for them, and 2. no more stickies or loose paper lying around – I can just go to the computer and look at my list.

Hmmm. This is a great idea for writers in general who have written iPhone apps, e-books, etc. Thanks for the suggestion!

Once you have a wishlist, you can send them a link to it. Or, if they do a search on Amazon for your name, it will show up!

That is really useful. I love using my Amazon wishlist, and this will make it all the better.

I have noticed that when I add your patterns, I get the size chart image in the list…. Makes for an amusing conversation with my husband later, since he knows better than to ask my sizes or ruin a surprise gift for me. He doesn’t understand about pattern sizing, the poor dear, and has no idea what he’s looking at. He just bought me your book instead. And I love it!

All small businesses should be self-serving in their advertising and blogs. How else are you going to compete with the bigger corporations??? You have a high-quality product that consumers want to know about; I think your post is just good business sense!

I do have a question, though: Amazon lists not only you as a purveyor of your patterns, but other stockists as well… how does this affect Colette Patterns as a business? Is a pattern sold a pattern sold, or is it more beneficial to you to have your customers purchase directly through Colette? I’ve bought your patterns (and other independent designers) through online fabric stores, and I was just curious… If this is an inappropriate question, I apologize, and please ignore it. I just feel that if one chooses to shop for the benefit of a small business, then the maximum benefit should go to that business, and I’d like to know how to best reach that end.

Many thanks for all your hard work and dedication!

That’s a little difficult to answer. We do love when people buy from us, but at the same time our retailers are extremely important. Think of it this way: Either way, you are supporting small business, since most of our retailers are independent shops.

I always think you make an excellent point. I do love your retailers, as, I’m sure, do you. Of course, I’ll be happy to pick up some fancy fabrics alongside my patterns!

Thanks for answering! I had often wondered the same thing myself. I would actually be interested in a post on this kind of topic (if you think it’s appropriate, that is). I’m all about supporting independent companies, and I would love to know what is the best way to support them from the independent company’s point of view (apart from buying the products, of course!)
