Sewalong with Sarah and Erin!

I’m pleased as punch to share this with you guys. Sarah contacted me recently to let me know that she was interested in starting a sewalong for all the patterns in The Colette Sewing Handbook! I thought I’d let her tell you a little about it.Take it away, Sarah! -Sarai

Hello all! I’m Sarah from Rhinestones & Telephones and I’m very honoured to have the opportunity to write a guest post for one of my very favourite blogs and to be able to introduce an exciting new sew-along.

Like you, I was very excited when Sarai published the news about the Colette Sewing Handbook and I was thrilled to have the chance to review it prior to its publication. Within minutes of reading it, I knew that this book was something special and unique. Every page was a feast for the senses and the patterns included in the book are just what we’ve come to expect from Colette Patterns: timeless, feminine, and a dream to sew.

If you follow my blog, you’ll know that one of my goals for this year is to sew all of the patterns from the book and it could not be more serendipitous that Erin of Miss Crayola Creepy has the same plans! After a flurry of emails, we decided to go for it together and thus, the Sew Colette sew-along was hatched.

We will be sewing one garment per month in the order they appear in the book. Along the way, we’ll be delving into the sewing techniques taught by Sarai and, yes, that means we’ll each be making our own croquis!

Meringue Skirt via Colette Patterns

For each project, we will be taking our measurements, making a muslin, adjusting the fit, and then sewing our garment. Our first project is the Meringue Skirt and it kicks off this Monday, January 9, 2012. We hope to see you there!

C’mon and sew along with us! Grab a button for your blog or website and don’t forget to join the Flickr group!

**I wanted to send a special thank you to Sarai for so enthusiastically embracing this sew-along and allowing me the chance to chat about it here.**

How exciting!! I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make the deadline for Meringue, but I’ll do my best!

I am finding that I am really looking forward to sewing your designs. They are straight forward and so pretty :)

I signed up for the SWAP 2012, but I can not seem to become motivated to sew anything yet – :( I think I need to jump into sewing slowly, by doing one garment at a time.

Yes, sign me up for this one!

Ooh, yes please! I’m planning on sewing through the Handbook as well, so this really excites me. I was going to ask today in the forums if there was going to be a spring challenge or sew-along, and here’s my answer!

Cuckoo, I commanded(ordered) the book for which I wait and exactly I wanted to begin with the skirt covers with meringue.
I do not understand all which is said, I hope that my translator of English is top.
I join you as soon as my sewing patterns arrive.
Goodbye on my blog

I can’t wait to get my book and start sewing, it should be arriving any day now and I love every pattern it comes with. Colette patterns all have that vintage 40’s-50’s couture style, feel and simplicity that I love so much. Count me in!
