Her post about the pattern: The Epic Chantilly Saga

What kind of fabric did you use? The most amazing multicoloured polka dot cotton poplin I found at my local chain fabric store. Cheap, cheerful and with gorgeous colours. Who knew such gems existed?

How did you decide to reflect your personal style in the pattern? Since I have started sewing I’ve discovered a love of polka dots, prints and 50s inspired dresses. After picking up this fabric quite early on in the year, I hoarded it like the last cookies in the jar, waiting for the perfect pattern. In the end, the bodice construction of Chantilly won me over with the sweet gathers and the fabulous yoke. The perfect frock pattern to match my fabulous spots!

What thoughts do you have about the project? To be honest, this pattern was a bit above my sewing level when I attempted it so it was a lengthy labour of love (and cocktails) to see it through. But I am so happy I did- I love this dress! The gathered bodice front meant no need for a FBA which was a life saver and the volume of the skirt makes me feel like I’m wearing a fabulous 50s day dress. The pattern instructions were clear and detailed and allowed for a beginner like me to stumble my way through with minimal mistakes. I’m so happy with Chantilly that I’ll be adding another one to my collection… A girl can never have to many fantastic 50s frocks, right?

Thanks, Amanda!
