Her post about the pattern: the meringue skirt

What kind of fabric did you use? I found this fabric at Hobby Lobby; it’s got a heavy, thick feel, almost like canvas.

How did you decide to reflect your personal style in the pattern? I love how the crisp, structured feel of this skirt contrasts with the tribal look of the fabric. I’ve been stuck in a basic pencil skirt rut for a while, so I wanted to add something new and different to my work wardrobe. I can’t wait to make another Meringue skirt, maybe with the added waistband next time.

What thoughts do you have about the project? This project was truly a joy. The pattern directions were clear and precise; this was a quick, fairly easy project with an impressive end result. I typically sew for my children, and I feel a little intimidated by sewing my own clothing. This skirt was a great confidence boost for me. I will definitely work through the rest of the patterns in the Colette Sewing Handbook, and I really want to try the Macaron dress too!

Really cute and you must join the Colette 2.0 sewalong, the next pattern is Macaron! I’ve got my shell fabric… searching for the contrast.
Funnily enough I love sewing my own clothes but stress about disappointing my kids! They are becoming fashionistas!

What a great interpretation of that skirt! I have to admit that I was on the fence about the scalloped look, but Jessica’s version has me ready to dive into my stash for a fabric like that.

It looks great! I love the pattern, I agree with the thicker fabric giving a nice crisp look my version is in denim and has the same effect. Well done. x

Really lovely! It does look great in a stiffer fabric. I’ve made one that’s slightly more drapy, must make a thicker one for myself.
