What a fantastic episode! Matthew sounds like such a warm, wonderful person. I think he really hit the nail on the head with some of the reasons more men don’t sew. Gender stereotyping is bad for everyone, not just girls and women! I have a son (age 9) and a daughter (age 7) and I’m teaching them both to sew, as far as their interest takes them.
It’s interesting that there is a national push to improve K-12 education in STEM subjects at the same time that the maker movement and creative entrepreneurship is exploding. I wish we could re-introduce domestic subjects in K-12 education, along with all the emphasis on STEM, as essential life skills, not silly hobbies for girls.

I can relate to Matthew’s comments on going into an extended size store and the selection is abysmal. In my case, it’s petite sizes, but I felt like what he said was what I could say.

This entire series has been a joy to listen to. It’s great that the focus is on the person’s journey in life seen through the lense of sewing compared to sewing with a side of life.
