Hey there & thank you for reading the Colette blog!
This site is no longer being updated so head over to Seamwork to get all the latest patterns, tutorials, video classes, and more.
Go to SeamworkLA friends, I’m going to be in my old stomping grounds soon, and would love to meet up with you!
The lovely ladies of Sew LA in Silver Lake are throwing a little party and book signing event, and we’d love to see you there. Not only will there be signed books available (of course), but they’re also offering 20% off on all our patterns, plus an extra 10% if you wear your handmade Colette Patterns garment. I’ll also be bringing down some of the sample garments from the book to take a look at. Plus food, drink, and chatting about sewing, what could be better?
Here are the details:
Date: Saturday, February 18th
Time: 6-9PM
Where: Sew LA, 1637 1/2 Silver Lake Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
If you’d like to RSVP (though it’s not strictly necessary to come), we’ll send you a little reminder email beforehand so you don’t forget. You can RSVP on our events page.

I make occasional business trips up to the Portland area and missed the other book signing by just a few days! So, I am super excited this is just a short drive from my home. I’ll be attending for sure!
Awesome!
Ahhhhhhhhhhh that is the night my roommate and I are hosting our Star Wars party. ;_; I would otherwise totally be there. :(
How can I compete with Star Wars? Too bad Sew LA isn’t offering additional discounts for anyone dressed as a wookie.
Well, there are only two Wookiees that I know of, and only one that’s actually good in SoCal (I’m not counting the fleece one I saw on Hollywood Blvd once… yikes!). Though it’s less sewing, and more endlessly latch-hooking yak hair. Still very much worthy of a discount.
I hope you’re in LA again, though. I’ve been pushing the Colette handbook on a bunch of people in my costuming club, and they all think it’s a fantastic resource. I even used the top half of a Pastille for one of my Star Wars costumes. :)
we could…. :)
Se envious :) Any stops planned in San Francisco? please!
Not yet! I’m not sure where I’d show up in SF. The only place I can think of is Stone Mountain in Berkeley?
That would be even better :) and it is a great idea. i know you are looking for a book store but what about Britex itself?
You know, I asked an employee at Britex about it when I visited a while back, and she seemed a little confused about the idea of doing an event, so I got the idea that they don’t do author events. But I should probably drop them a note. :)
Well, some of their employees are quite… aloof and even if they hadn’t done it before, they should bend backwards to get you (it would benefit them just as much, if not more, than it would benefit you). Maybe you should contact the store manager.
On a different note, I can’t wait to start sewing from your book-it’s patiently awaiting by my school books. Any spring patterns coming up? :)
i’m in town and can’t wait!
Yay, can’t wait to meet you, Oona!
:)!
Any chance you’ll be at the Sewing Expo in Puyallup, WA at the beginning of March?
I’m going to try to make it, Bunny! I’m not doing any vending or anything, but I hope to just walk the show and hopefully take a seminar or two. :)
We’re SO excited to host Sarai and her gorgeous book at Sew L.A.!!! And I have to say, I’m excited that Oona is coming! Please introduce yourself to me/us!!!
definitely girl! i’ll be the one with bells on :)
yay!!! I’ll listen for the bells :)
How cool! I learned to sew at Sew L.A. and it is such a cool space! If I still lived there I’d totally go. Have fun at the happiest little spot in Silver Lake :)
I am so sad, I asked my husband if I could go…. But he said no! LA is too far for me to go! Since we live in Australia I thought it was a reasonable reply. Poo.
Yes! I will be there!
Hi there from Canada
I have been admiring your patterns and book from blogs and I can not wait to be able to afford to order. I so want to make clothes and you get great reviews. Just wanted to let you know. HOpe your book signing is a great turnout. All the best to you.
Aww, thanks Carrie!
Just beginning to start projects from your book – Meringue skirt. And low and behold look what shows up in my mailbox today… JCrew and their scalloped hem shorts for spring – you may not have invented the scalloped hem, but one cannot help but wonder about the reach of your influence. Ahem…
Good show!
